Periodic News Summary
Editorial: the 2004 election in the Unites States offers the American people two clear choices. One alternative is to continue the offensive against the terrorists, on their
territory. This alternative -advocated and practiced by President George W. Bush- has led to the liberation of Afghanistan and to the liberation of Iraq. It has also
kept the American nation free from acts of terrorism since September 11, 2001. The other alternative -advocated by Senator John Kerry- is unclear and undefined.
More than an alternative it is a set of criticisms against the policies of President Bush. Criticisms that -among other things- blame the present administration for
having created a "magnet for terrorism" in Iraq. This is not even a sound criticism since confronting terrorism abroad... is just what is
needed. George W. Bush inherited an economic recession and confronted a brutal -and beastly- attack against civilization which further worsened the economy. His response, which included needed
tax cuts, has been successful. The nation is on the right course... George W.
Bush deserves to be reelected.
Commentary: the war in Iraq has claimed the lives of more than 1000 American soldiers. These soldiers have paid the ultimate price in the war against the evil of
terrorism. A sacrifice for a noble cause. This number, however, must be compared with casualties from previous wars. In that context... this is a very low number. Also, far
more lives are lost in a single year, due to crime, in major American cities (Note: some 16000 murders are committed every year in the US).
Historical note: some point out to the combat experience of John Kerry as an asset as possible Commander in Chief. This perspective ignores that Ronald Regan,
who ensured the defeat of the formidable Soviet Union, had no combat experience. This perspective also ignores that other figures in history, who did have combat
experience, did turn out to be utter failures as Commander in Chief. An example... Adolf Hitler. The point is: what matters most... are values and principles.
Note on the economy: Senator Kerry has often used the issue of outsourcing to criticize the Bush administration. He ignores that the phenomenon of outsourcing
began in the late 1990s -during the Clinton administration- and that it was President Clinton himself who signed the NAFTA agreement.
